Well, I am finally back and getting on top of things. Had the most horrendous flu and could not just get rid of it. I would start to feel a bit better and then bang, back again. Recently I was given the fabulous opportunity to review a pair of Sunglasses from the Sunglass Warehouse. Well, I should say my son is actually reviewing them. And he has worn them every single day since they arrived.

The sunglasses he picked out were the SW Retro Style in Black.

My son is more than happy with these glasses. He advises me they are quite sturdy, as he has dropped them a few times and they survived.

Again I won another product from Tropical Traditions. This time it was the Tropical Traditions
All Purpose Cleaner. And they allowed to host a review and giveaway of this product on my blog. Of course, I said yes.

I had the opportunity to use this product the other day when I was cleaning out my backyard. There was a table that was put away and I decided to take it out to use. It is a large white outdoor table and it was filthy. So I sprayed her down with the All Purpose Cleaner, wiped the table, and then used the hose to wash it off. The table turned out clean as clean can be. I did not even have to use any elbow grease. And I didn't even use hot water, as the water from the hose is, obviously, cold. Great Product.

A huge plus is that this cleaner is non-toxic. Safe & non-toxic, this solution is for all your household/commercial cleaning needs! Replace all of your harmful, toxic cleaners with Household Traditions All Purpose Cleaner! It can be used anywhere, kitchen, bathroom, auto. But there are a couple of other places that it can be used that you probably would not have thought of. I know I didn't.
Fruits/Vegetables
Spray on fruits/vegetables, then rinse clean.

Laundry
Pre-spray stains and spots with Household Traditions All Purpose Cleaner. Use 1-3 ounces in wash cycle. Heavily soiled or large loads: Pre-spray stains and spots. If especially greasy or soiled, allow to soak for at least 30 minutes or even overnight if necessary, then wash as normal. Works great for removing blood, grease, wax, dirt & oil!

Who would have thought using it on their fruits and veggies.

As with the other Tropical Tradition products I have tried, this one too gets a huge thumbs up from me.

I was absolutely thrilled, and I mean thrilled, when Al of Country Bob's gave the go ahead for me to host a review and giveaway for my readers.

Saturday night after a long day of cleaning the backyard, my friend and I decided we were having ourselves a nice steak dinner. Kraft Refrigerated Dressings

Strategic Objectives was kind enough to send me some coupons for the Kraft Refrigerated Dressings.

There are six different varieties that you can choose from. Asiago Caesar, Calorie-wise Asiago Caesar, Raspberry Poppyseed, Barbecue Ranch, Creamy Balsamic, and Greek Feta.

The first one I wanted to try was the Raspberry Poppyseed and my son wanted to try the Greek Feta. I immediately checked out the Kraft website and found a recipe page that has recipes using these dressings.

We decided the Greek Feta it would be.

What You Need

8 cups torn iceberg lettuce (about 1 head)

3 Tomatoes (1 lb./450 g), seeded, chopped

1-3/4 cups chopped English cucumbers

3/4 cup chopped green peppers

1/2 cup thin red onion slices

1/3 cup Pure Kraft Refrigerated Greek Feta Dressing

1/2 cup pitted black olives

1/2 cup crumbled Kraft Feta with Oregano, Sun Dried Tomatoes and Cracked Peppercorns Cheese

Make It

COMBINE first 5 ingredients in large bowl.

ADD dressing; mix lightly.

TOP with olives and cheese.

For a more traditional Greek salad, omit the lettuce.

I served this with chicken souvlaki with tzatziki sauce on the side. It was a fantastic meal.

The week after I decided to try the Raspberry Poppyseed salad.

What You Need

6 cups torn Boston lettuce

2 cups torn curly endive

1/4 cup Pure Kraft Refrigerated Raspberry Poppyseed Dressing

1 cup fresh raspberries

1/4 cup coarsely chopped pecans, toasted

2 Tbsp. chopped fresh chives

Make It

COMBINE lettuce and endive in large bowl.
ADD dressing; mix lightly.
TOP with remaining ingredients.

Variation

For a summer berry salad, prepare using a mix of fresh berries, such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries

I also added the tiny baby tomatoes to this salad. And on another occasion I used strawberries instead of raspberries.

I love them both, but my fave is the Raspberry Poppyseed, where as my son absolutely loves the Greek Feta.

I will also be trying out the other refrigerated dressing that Kraft makes. I am looking forward to trying the Calorie-reduced Asiago Caesar dressing. In the past I have found that a lot of calorie-reduced dressings just don't have the flavour of the regular dressings. Hoping that is not the case here. I will let you know.

In conclusion, a thumbs up to these dressings. I like them much more than the shelf dressings.

Kraft Sizzling Salads Review

I have been seeing these kits advertised for quite awhile now and thought they sounded so delicious, so needless to say, I was thrilled when Strategic Objectives sent me the Southwest Sizzling Salad Kit to try out. The kit is not a one time use kit either. Each kit makes up to 8 entree salads. The cooking sauce is Spicy Fajita and the dressing is Barbecue Ranch.

The first thing I will say is I LOVE THESE. I am embarrassed to say that when it comes to cooking I have no imagination whatsoever. My son refuses to touch mashed potatoes ever again, as that is all I would serve with dinners. Aren't you glad you don't live at my house? Kraft has allowed me to try something different with this product. Another bonus with these kits, oh, so easy and it is not time consuming.

All you need to do is cook your boneless skinless chicken breasts, add the sauce, and then whatever salad ingredients that you like. You will also find on the back of the box suggested salad ingredients.

Here is the recipe that I found on the Kraft website for this particular salad. This recipe makes 4 servings.

What You Need

1 lb. (450 g) boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips

1 tsp. Oil

1/2 cup Kraft Sizzling Salads Spicy Fajita Cooking Sauce

8 cups torn iceberg lettuce

1 cup each red and green pepper strips

1 cup Frozen corn, thawed

1 cup canned no-salt-added black beans, rinsed

2 Green onions, sliced

1/2 cup Kraft Old Cheddar Shredded Cheese

1/2 cup Kraft Sizzling Salads Barbecue Ranch Dressing

Make It

COOK and stir chicken in hot oil in large skillet on medium-high heat 6 to 7 min. or until done.

ADD cooking sauce; cook and stir on low heat 30 sec. to 1 min. or until chicken is evenly coated.

COMBINE remaining ingredients; place on 4 plates. Top with chicken.

(My son also added nacho chips to the salad which tasted great)

Does it sound yummy? Well, I can tell you it is. My son is ecstatic that I have found something different to serve for dinner that does not include potatoes.

The Kraft Sizzling Salads also come in three other varieties. You can choose the Chicken Caear, Greek Chicken, and Chicken Teriyaki Ginger. They all sound yummy. We will definitely be trying all three in this house.

The Southwest Sizzling Salad kit get a big thumbs up from me and my son. I want to thank Strategic Objectives and Kraft for the opportunity to review this product. Oh, yes, and my son thanks you too.

The Dyson Vacuum Review

Well, first of all, let me just say WOW. Strategic Objectives was kind enough to offer me a Dyson vacuum to review. I was thrilled. But not as thrilled as what I was when I received it and used it. I was amazed. I received the Dyson DC25. I was so happy that I was able to pick the breast cancer pink colour.

In the past years I have been buying and trying different vacuums and I have to admit that none of them had the WOW factor like Dyson did. As soon as I received it I could not wait to open it, put it together, and start housecleaning. Assembling the vacuum was a breeze. Believe me, if I can say this, then it is true, as I am not technically inclined whatsoever. Then off to the living room I went and started vacuuming.

Now, my living area is not very large. After I finished vacuuming I took a look at the canister (that's right, no bags to deal with) to see what was in there and I was flabbergasted at what this vacuum picked up. It picked up tons of cat hair that I could not even see by just looking at the rug. Even my 19 year old son was impressed. He said the carpet looked new again. And that is saying a lot as the carpet was looking pretty dingy. Even better, he grabbed the vacuum from me so he could do his room with it.

Another fantastic factor about this vacuum is that it rides on a ball for greater manoeuvrability. I found that I was not struggling at all with the Dyson as it turns corners like a dream.

Since I have received my Dyson, I have talked to other people who own a Dyson and they pretty much say the same thing. They love their Dyson and would not consider anything else.

Now, maybe the upright vacuum is not for you and you might prefer a canister style. Dyson can offer you this also. They have a wide array to choose from. You can check them out HERE.

This particular canister vacuum actually fits on a standard sized piece of paper. How sweet is that for storage.

Do you have pets? I know that pet hair can be a pain in the you know what to get rid of. Well, Dyson also manufactures vacuums especially for this type of problem. They offer both the upright and canister models in this particular line.

Dyson is available to purchase online and at many major stores, such as Zellers, The Bay, Best Buy, Future Shop, Canadian Tire, Sears, Home Hardware, and Home Depot.

In conclusion, I give the Dyson vacuum and James Dyson a huge thumbs up. I would not hesitate in the least to recommend any of their products. You would not be disappointed.

The Floors in the House are Finally Done

Hi, everyone, I apologize that I have not been around in the last few days. I have a bunch of giveaway winners to choose, which I will be getting to in the next two days.

My landlord decided that he wanted to take out the carpet and put in hardwood floors. I was thrilled. He is not too bad of a landlord. He has not raised the rent in the six years, which is a plus. So he made a deal with us that if we moved all our furniture out of the rooms and rip out the carpets in the living room and the two bedrooms, he would not raise our rent this year either. So, of course, I agreed. Then I realize, how the hell do I rip carpet out? Not with my knees. Luckily my friend's son heard of my dilemma and offered to do it for me. Whew. My son and I moved the furniture and he did the rest. What a Godsend.

They finished the floors yesterday, and I still have not moved anything back. I am exhausted and when I look around I want to cry. So what am I doing instead? Sitting here on the computer and ignoring the mess around. My kid has his bed in his room. Mine is still behind tons of other stuff which I have to get to before I can get to my bed. So still sleeping on the couch. I know I have to get up off me arse and get going on this, but just cannot get up and at it. What is wrong with me?

But lo and behold, I do manage to find a spot to squeeze into and set up the computer. Hmmm, does one think I need to get my priorities straight?

Of course, now, I want to redecorate everything. New beds, lamps, tables, etc, but I will tend to that once I get everything else in order.

Hopefully I am not the only procrastinator around here. I will force myself to start this when it hopefully cools down this evening. And I promise, I will get to those giveaways by tomorrow.

HAPPY CANADA DAY

I am Canadian and very proud of it. And today is Canada Day.

Yes, I am one of those Canadians that always says "Eh". I was in Florida one time and I was talking to the bartender at a local bar and he says to me, "You're from Canada, aren't you?" I said, "Why, yes, how did you know?" He said, "Eh". I said, "No way, eh". LOL. The "eh" gives some of us away. And I call people "buddy". For example, "Hey, buddy, how's it going today". Even if they are not my buddy. "Hey, buddy, you dropped something". And yes, I call people "b'y". Sometimes I will put "b'y" at the end of the sentence instead of "eh". Such as "Where ya going, b'y" I get that from my east coast side.

I was born in Vancouver, BC, lived in Whitehorse, Yukon, moved to Montreal and now live in Toronto. My dad's side of the family is from Cape Breton. My mom is from Saskatchewan from whom I get my Cree background.

MY THOUGHTS:

I was thrilled when given the opportunity to review and host a giveaway for this audio book. I have been a long time fan of both Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston. I have read and enjoyed every Aloysious Pendergast novel, and Fever Dream lived up to my expectations.

In this novel Pendergast looks back on his wife, Helen's, death 12 years ago, which appeared at the time to be accidental, but now he believes it might have been murder. The novel takes you from Africa to South America and to New Orleans and will keep your interest as Pendergast and his sidekick Lt. D'Agosta find out secrets about Helen that her husband was unaware of.

I received the Essence of Vali Sleep Soothing Mist and I have to give this a thumbs up. Before I went to bed, I sprayed it on the four corners of my pillow and also a bit into the air. Plus, you do not need to use a lot, so it will last you a while. It smells delicious and it actually did help to relax me and send me off to sleep.

MY THOUGHTS:

Years ago I read the prequel Presumed Innocent, so when I received this audio book to review, I found my copy of Presumed Innocent so I could read it again and then listen to the audio book directly after. If you have not read the prequel yet, you can still jump into Innocent as it can stand on its own. I assure you, though, that once you finish Innocent, you will want to run out and get Presumed Innocent.

Now after 23 years Rusty Sabich is back, only not as a prosecutor but a judge, where once again he stands accused of murder. The murder of his wife.

One of the reasons I loved this book so much is that Scott Turow brings a sense of reality to his courtroom drama. You can tell he is drawing on his own experience as an attorney. After having worked for over 20 years in the criminal justice system myself, I can really appreciate this.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and would recommend it without hesitation. This audio book will keep you listening to find out who did it.

Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach Giveaway

Well, a little while ago I was lucky enough to win Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach. Tropical Traditions also suggested that I might want to host a review and giveaway of this product on Thrifty Canucks. I jumped at the chance.

I will be honest and say that when I first received this product, my thoughts were, Well, how different will this be than any other bleach?

Well, let me tell you how different this product is. This is my own personal experience and I wish I had of taken before and after pics, but when I found these shirts my only thought was, What am I going to do with these?

I was looking through a bag of summer clothes that I had packed away and I found three of my favourite white shirts. I took them out of the bag and saw that all three of them had that horrible yellow colour all over them. You know that mysterious yellow that seems to cling to white clothing? My first thought was these are toast. I should just throw them out. Two of the shirts were shirts I could not put in the washing machine. Then I thought, wait, now let's see just how well Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach works. I honestly did not have much hope.

So I filled the sink, put a bit of detergent and a scoop of the Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach and the three shirts into the sink. I let them sit and soak for about an hour. When I took them out and hung them up, they were SNOW WHITE. Not a mark on them. I have to say I was pretty impressed. I have been wearing these shirts since. I honestly would recommend this bleach to anyone. And remember, the Oxygen Bleach is super safe and gentle on clothes. Not like the chlorine bleach that can damage your clothing.
